US Jobs Surge by 162,000 in August as Canada Sheds 41,700 Jobs

 The US economy unexpectedly gained 162,000 jobs in August 2026, driven mainly by school and food service hiring, despite losses in the information and finance sectors. Although the strong job growth increased expectations that the Federal Reserve might raise interest rates, stock markets fell after President Donald Trump demanded rate cuts and threatened new trade tariffs. Meanwhile, Canada's economy lost 41,700 jobs due to ongoing trade tensions, population declines, and international conflicts.
